Study reveals European consumers are concerned about the cleanliness of reusable packaging

The Finnish group Stora Enso has carried out a survey in which more than 7,000 European consumers between the ages of 18 and 64, from several countries on the continent, participated. Although the majority of respondents had a positive opinion of reusable packaging, they expressed significant concerns about its cleanliness. The survey revealed that 78% of participants would be concerned about hygiene if a product was packaged in a reusable container, highlighting that this issue was exacerbated during the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, it was found that there is confusion about the definition of reusable packaging and the recycling process. The results suggest that simplifying recycling processes and reassuring consumers about the cleanliness of reusable packaging would be key steps to the success of current efforts in this direction.
