Do you have a challenge related to the management of food packaging or food containing?

In ontzi | BASQUE FOOD PACKAGING Innovation Hub

We show you the challenges that food companies in the Basque Country have prioritized so far in terms of food packaging management.

Join the community and look for or offer a new solution.

We also give you the opportunity to tell us about a new challenge so that we can find a solution.

Our goal is to activate the international search for solutions by favoring contact, synergies and the design of projects that drive progress in the area.

Challenge 1:

DIAGNOSIS AND IMPLEMENTATION OF MORE SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS

  • Recyclable container or packaging: Transit from a container or packaging that is partially recyclable to another that is fully recyclable thanks to the simplification of its structure, its unification in an only material or its separability, etc.
  • New container or packaging: Fully change the original container or packaging material for a completely different one, either because the new material is compostable or the use of glass or plastic turns into paper.
  • Material reduction: Reduce the amount of material used in the container or packaging, either because elements such as the sleeve are eliminated, or the weight and grammage of the container or packaging is reduced.
  • Recyclable material: Switch from virgin material for containers or packaging to recycled material, either in its entirety or through the incorporation of a given % of recycled material or the replacement of one or some layer(s) of a multilayer structure by recycled material.
  • Reusable container or packaging: Switch from the traditional container or packaging to another suitable for the reutilization that belongs to a circuit where the container or packaging is conditioned and reused.

Challenge 2:

MAINTAIN THE USEFUL LIFE WITH MORE SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS

  • Longer useful life of the packaged product: Container or packaging that extends the useful life of the product, either because the product is a very natural one and has a short useful life, or because it is a product that is exported to other countries and needs to support longer distribution periods.
  • Longer useful life after opening: Container or packaging that extends the useful life of the product once the container is opened at home by the consumer.

Challenge 3:

PACKAGING THAT IMPROVES THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCE

  • Olfactory improvement: Packaging that improves the consumer’s olfactory experience and therefore his/her experience, either because it releases a specific odor in a controlled manner or because it eliminates an undesirable odor.
  • Interaction with the consumer: Packaging that provides information and interacts with the consumer through digital tools.
  • Sensory quality: Packaging that improves the appearance and texture of the product by having expanded functionalities such as grill effect, crispy effect, etc.
